“B2B” – means that you are selling a product or service to other businesses. B2B is short for “business to business.” It indicates sales made to other businesses, rather than sales to individuals. The latter is referred to as “business to consumer” sales.
B2B sales often take the form of one company selling supplies or components to another. For example, a tire manufacturer might sell to a car manufacturer. Wholesalers often sell their products to retailers, who then turn around and sell them to consumers. Supermarkets are a classic example: they buy food from wholesalers and then sell it at a slightly higher price to individuals.
"B2C"- B2C (Business to Customer) is an electronic Internet-facilitated medium where products or services are sold from a company to a consumer. There are five classifications of B2C electronic commerce: direct sellers, manufacturers, online intermediaries, advertising-based models and community-based models. Direct sellers are the most well-known B2C companies. These B2C businesses include e-tailers and manufacturers. B2C can be used to sell virtually any type of product online. B2C electronic commerce offers the following advantages: convenience, real-time changes in products and price and an enhanced buying experience. B2C also faces some challenges. The two main B2C issues are building traffic and sustaining customer loyalty. Those who have mastered B2C electronic commerce know the value of effective communication and also the value of the B2C customer.
One major reason for the popularity of B2B sales and services is sheer volume. An individual customer may visit a clothing manufacturer's website catalog and order two pairs of shoes or a sweater. The buyer for a national chain of clothing stores, however, may order 5,000 pairs of shoes and 2,000 sweaters. Without a B2B component, the manufacturer would have lost out on a very lucrative sale. This is why many companies provide B2B options alongside the B2C offerings at their websites and other outlets.
